Providing professional faith-based therapy
to pastors and the community
Pastor, are you feeling discouraged?
You are not alone. The past few years have been demanding. The pandemic, political polarizations, and the changing ministry landscape has impacted churches and their pastoral leaders. Some pastors describe signs of burnout while others express feelings of anxiety, isolation, loneliness, or tension between church and family life. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. Let’s talk.
Not a pastor? That's okay!
Dr. Amanda Montgomery is honored to work with anyone who would like to seek individual, couple, or family therapy. The services section offers a list of the most common presenting concerns of current clientele. The list is not exhaustive, but is meant to help you determine if we might be a good fit for therapy.
Amanda C. Montgomery, DMin, LMFT
I am a longtime resident in Olympia, WA and I love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. As a pastor who gets the unique joys and sorrows that come with being called into ministry, I have a particular interest in working with pastors and their families. If you are not a pastor, please do not let this deter you from calling me. I am passionate about working with teens, adults, and older adults on topics that cause a person to feel stuck. Whether it be relationships, grief, trauma, anxiety, or any other topic that is causing discouragement, I would be honored to meet with you.
Education and Experience
I graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in Psychology (2005) and Pacific Lutheran University with a Master’s degree in Marriage in Family Therapy (2008). I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the State of Washington in 2011. I have served in pastoral ministry for 12 years and became an ordained pastor in the Church of the Nazarene in 2017. Throughout the years, I have served in a variety of pastoral roles at Mountain View Church of the Nazarene in Tumwater, WA, and I currently serve as the young adults pastor. For years, I have served on the leadership council of the Capital Region Ministries Network (CRMN), a multi-denominational organization that invites pastors to network and encourage one another throughout the greater-Olympia area. I also serve on multiple district boards that oversee the personal and professional development of pastoral candidates who seek ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. I have mentored pastoral candidates and taught continuing education workshops on subjects including holiness theology, ethics, human trafficking awareness, and mental health.I hold a Doctor of Ministry in Innovative Leadership of Changing Cultures (2022). My doctoral research and writing focused on educating pastors, churches, and community groups about human trafficking as it manifests in local communities throughout the United States. I am in the process of publishing my first book on trafficking prevention and awareness.
Olympia Pastoral Counseling- Founder
For the past few years, I have received an increase in requests from people throughout the community who are looking for faith-based counseling services. After finding that the need for in-person faith-based therapy far exceeded the availability of local therapists, I felt called to open a private practice. I founded Olympia Pastoral Counseling in 2023.
Life is tough. Let's talk.
I provide 50-minute therapy sessions. Although the number and frequency of sessions vary depending on presenting concerns, most treatment spans 12-15 sessions. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am trained in systems theory allowing me to work with individuals, couples, or families in the therapeutic setting.I have a passion for working with those who are experiencing burnout, anxiety, stress, marriage issues, and how past trauma impacts present wellbeing and relationships. I have worked with many sexual assault survivors (male and female). If this is part of your story, I would be honored to work with you.
Who can pastors talk to?
As public figures, it can be difficult for pastors to know who they can turn to when they need to talk. As a pastor, I know how hard it is for us to let down our guard and ask for help without fearing that we will harm someone else’s view of us, of God, or of the church. As a therapist, I will provide confidential and professional therapeutic care.
In-Person or Online?
In-person sessions are recommended whenever possible. However, if you prefer online counseling sessions, please contact me. I offer online sessions to Washington State resident when needed.
